Savoy - The Village of Savoy is currently working towards creating and implementing a routine inspection process for rental property. The initial focus will be on commercial business structures and Savoy may eventually include the common areas of large residential rental structures.

Champaign

Last month, the revised version of the vacant structures ordinance passed by a vote of 7-2 in Champaign. The dissenting votes came from Deborah Frank Feinen and Paul Faraci.

The ordinance  requires an owner to submit a remediation plan and register the property on a nuisance vacant property list if a building meets one of the following criteria :

  • is unsafe for occupancy
  • has been boarded up for 90 consecutive days
  • has had unresolved property code violations for 45 consecutive days
  • is delinquent on two property tax installments in a given year
  • has been the site of repetitive criminal activity

Urbana 

Rental registration applications for the year have been mailed out to Urbana property owners. This program was established in 2007 and requires registration and fees for the following building types:

  • single-family housing
  • multi-family housing
  • duplex housing
  • properties where the owner is still an occupant such as room rentals and temporary leases
